Calibration

Calibration is a process used to define the accuracy of the measuring instrument under specific conditions and the result is presented in the form of the measuring instrument’s deviation from the referential value, with the corresponding measuring uncertainty. In performing the calibration, measurement standards which have a guaranteed traceability are used as reference values. The Alba calibration laboratory has been certified to the ISO 17025 standard, with the accreditation certificate number LK-027.

Why calibrate?

Reliable measuring results are essential for quality assurance. Proper operation of measuring instruments reduces the possibility for measurement errors, which could lead to false testing results or products of incorrect quality. With calibration, the proper functioning of the measuring equipment according to relevant standards is tested. Therefore, if you have or intend to implement a quality system, a calibrated measuring equipment is of vital importance, since it is required by the majority of the relevant ISO standards.

How often calibrate?

Calibration interval is determined by the user based on the manufacturer’s recommendations and the criteria for the work processes in which the measuring instrument is used. Expenses incurred by the improper operation of the equipment can be substantially higher than the calibration costs. It is therefore recommended to regularly calibrate your measuring instrument and thus ensure that the measuring deviations will always be within the permitted tolerances.

When you order a calibration, do not forget to specify in which area you use your instrument and in which measuring points you want the calibration to be performed.

What is the difference between accredited and non-accredited calibration procedure?

For the calibrations which are within our accreditation scope, we issue an accredited certificate with the logo of the accreditation authority (Slovenian Accreditation – SA) and the Alba company logo. The accredited calibration fulfils all relevant standard requirements and ensures the traceability of the measuring instruments towards the international measurement standards. Results with tolerances and accompanying measurement uncertainty are given in SI units.

For calibrations that are outside our scope of accreditation, we issue a non-accredited certificate. This certificate is similar to the accredited one in its content; however, it only contains the Alba company logo. Results are traceable and represent the depiction of the measuring instrument with tolerance and the accompanying measurement uncertainty.
